Look, today’s going to be a rough day, no matter how you slice it. I would love to be wrong and to discover by, oh say, 9 p.m. tonight that there was a clear decisive victory and we could all go to bed, but the likelihood is nil. And anything I post on this blog today is going to pale in the face of the massive situation in which our country finds itself. We don’t know what’s going to happen, so to deal with this not knowing I’m going to have to do something as sweet and mild as possible.
I’m going to show you adorable 2020 Halloween costumes with children’s literature connections.
First up, it was @promanotweets with a post so cute, the very walls of the internet itself threatened to collapse:
Then we have Alison Morris paying homage the best way she knows how to the 2019 title Dandy by Ame Dyckman, illustrated by Charles Santoso. Note that she is a flower in an attic. I have evidence to support my belief that that is not a coincidence.
This dad was asked by his kids to dress up as Dan Santat for Halloween. As Dan says he, “really nailed it.”
This is only children’s literature related in that Jarrett Krosoczka is a children’s/YA author/illustrator, but c’mon. His family reenacted The Shining beautifully. We gotta give them some credit for that:
Do you follow The Rabbit Hole, that magnificent children’s book museum and explorastorium in Kansas City on Instagram? It’s practically my favorite show at this point. There’s this fellow there by the name of Travis who posts these highly elaborate scenes involving a host of small children’s book characters. Here was their Halloween “episode” (if that’s what they’re called):

And finally, my own family. Should this be unclear, my brother is a Dementor, my sister a Slytherin, my son Lord Voldemort, and my daughter an otter patronus. Which, by logical extension, would make me Hermione.
